Don’t act like a madman!

1Samuel 21:10-15 “And David rose and fled that day from Saul and went to Achish the king of Gath. 11And the servants of Achish said to him, “Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances, ‘Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?” 12And David took these words to heart and was much afraid of Achish the king of Gath. 13So he changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands and made marks on the doors of the gate and let his spittle run down his beard. 14Then Achish said to his servants, “Behold, you see the man is mad. Why then have you brought him to me? 15Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to behave as a madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?” David flees Saul and acts like a man who is alone and no faith in God.  He lies and acts like a madman because his fear overwhelms him.  It is sad to see this mighty man of God fall so far down the p...

Jonathan a lover of God

1 Samuel 20: 12And Jonathan said to David, “The LORD, the God of Israel, be witness! When I have sounded out my father, about this time tomorrow, or the third day, behold, if he is well disposed toward David, shall I not then send and disclose it to you? 13But should it please my father to do you harm, the LORD do so to Jonathan and more also if I do not disclose it to you and send you away, that you may go in safety. May the LORD be with you, as he has been with my father. 14If I am still alive, show me the steadfast love of the LORD, that I may not die; 15and do not cut off your steadfast love from my house forever, when the LORD cuts off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth.”  Jonathan was a man of great faith in the Lord. He knew that God was in charge of life situations. He did not know what the Lord was going to do but he had certainly that the Lord’s will would be done. He knew that David was special in God’s eyes even more so than himself. He s...

God works in chaos

1 Samuel 19:11-17 “Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, told him, “If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.” 12So Michal let David down through the window, and he fled away and escaped. 13Michal took an imagea and laid it on the bed and put a pillow of goats’ hair at its head and covered it with the clothes. 14And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, “He is sick.” 15Then Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.” 16And when the messengers came in, behold, the image was in the bed, with the pillow of goats’ hair at its head. 17Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me thus and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?” And Michal answered Saul, “He said to me, ‘Let me go. Why should I kill you?’” This chapter is about Saul being so jealous of David that he wants to kill him. David did nothing aga...

Don’t compare

1 Samuel18:6-9 “As they were coming home, when David returned from striking down the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with songs of joy, and with musical instruments. 7And the women sang to one another as they celebrated, “Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” 8And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?” 9And Saul eyed David from that day on.” This chapter is full of Israel’s successes. They were defeating their enemies and having great celebrations.  But in this time of winning pride and competition robbed Saul of the joy that should have comforted his heart. God blesses who he desires to bless. When we as believers see others receiving more from God we must not compare and or complain.  We have to trust God and...

The battle is the Lords

1 Samuel 17:45-47 “Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hand.” These very familiar verse are amazing because they tell us why David was the man God had prepared to glorify the LORD.  He did not fight Goliath in his own strength for his own glory. He fought for God’s honor in the strength of the Lord for the battle was not depended on David’s ability or power. The battle was the L...

A heart that obeys

1 Samuel 16:1-7 “The LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.” 2And Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” And the LORD said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’ 3And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. And you shall anoint for me him whom I declare to you.” 4Samuel did what the LORD commanded and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, “Do you come peaceably?” 5And he said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” And he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’s anointed is before him.” 7But ...

Obedience more than wisdom

1 Samuel 15:22-24 “And Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. 23For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.” 24Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.” Saul used his wisdom to obey people instead of trusting the Lord and obeying him. Have you ever said in your heart that if I do this little sin I can serve Jesus better because.....?  Truly you are pleasing your own sinful desires or other people’s wants by only sinning a little and think God wouldn’t mind!  Saul played that game and the Lord hated his disobedience.  The only way to please the Lord is by trusting him a...

Inquire the Lord more than pleading

1 Samuel 14:6-10 “6Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few.” 7And his armor-bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Do as you wish.b Behold, I am with you heart and soul.” 8Then Jonathan said, “Behold, we will cross over to the men, and we will show ourselves to them. 9If they say to us, ‘Wait until we come to you,’ then we will stand still in our place, and we will not go up to them. 10But if they say, ‘Come up to us,’ then we will go up, for the LORD has given them into our hand. And this shall be the sign to us.”  Jonathan was a very special person that God used in very remarkable ways.  He seems just the opposite of his father Saul.  He was sensitive to the Lord working where Saul has little or no insight to God. In this event Jonathan was trusting that the Lord can do all t...

Pursue God for your needs

1 Samuel 13:12-14 “12I said, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the favor of the LORD.’ So I forced myself, and offered the burnt offering.” 13And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the LORD your God, with which he commanded you. For then the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 14But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought out a man after his own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.” Saul used his senses to determine what he thought was right. He even used them to inquire to the Lord about receiving his favor. This act seems good and right but God says it was foolish and has cost him to lose the kingdom. Why was God so harsh?  When we represent the Lord who is holy, righteous and perfect in all his ways, he commands perfect obedience!  Saul represented hum...

Part of the family of God

1 Samuel 12:20-22 “20And Samuel said to the people, “Do not be afraid; you have done all this evil. Yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart. 21And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty. 22For the LORD will not forsake his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you a people for himself.”  The people of the Lord wanted a king and realized that it was a sin.  They were afraid but Samuel let them know that God would not forsake them because of his name sake not because they were special.  They were special because God choose them not because they were special on their own but because they were chosen by God.  We as believers are very special to the Lord Jesus because we are a part of his family. We praise him for what he has done for us.  Thank you Jesus for your love for us and dying for us.  Amen

God is our salvation

1Samuel 11: 5-7 “5Now, behold, Saul was coming from the field behind the oxen. And Saul said, “What is wrong with the people, that they are weeping?” So they told him the news of the men of Jabesh. 6And the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled. 7He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hand of the messengers, saying, “Whoever does not come out after Saul and Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen!” Then the dread of the LORD fell upon the people, and they came out as one man.” The LORD is our salvation in times past and today and forevermore.  This truth is throughout the Bible and we need to believe and live by it daily.  The new king Saul has the Spirit of God rush onto him and he acts decisively to motivate the people to come together and fight. The fear of the LORD causes them to obey. Then God gives the Ammonites into Israel’s hand. The whole stor...

God is faithful when we are not!

1 Samuel 10:9-13 “9When he turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day. 10When they came to Gibeah,d behold, a group of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied among them. 11And when all who knew him previously saw how he prophesied with the prophets, the people said to one another, “What has come over the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?” 12And a man of the place answered, “And who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?” 13When he had finished prophesying, he came to the high place.“ Saul was anointed King by Samuel and Israel had a king like other nations. God did not like any of it because the people  were rejecting him.  Yet the Lord was working out all the details.  God picked Saul, God have him a new heart, God sent his Spirit on Sail to prophecy with other prophets, and when they cast lots to choose a king befo...

God restrains his people

1Samuel 9:15-17 “15Now the day before Saul came, the LORD had revealed to Samuel: 16“Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be princec over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seend my people, because their cry has come to me.” 17When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD told him, “Here is the man of whom I spoke to you! He it is who shall restrain my people.” Saul will restrain God’s people.  God hears his people’s cry to him. They wanted a human king instead of the Lord as their king. God who deserves our praise and worship and honor was not enough for his people. They want someone they can see, hear and smell. Our hearts are sinful and desire sinful things. God in his love for his people gives them a physically beautiful king. It would be troublesome for them for it would restrain them from trusting the Lord. But God’s sovereign plan will ultimately show his glory thro...

God works through sin for his Glory

1 Samuel 8:6-9  “6But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the LORD. 7And the LORD said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them. 8According to all the deeds that they have done, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are also doing to you. 9Now then, obey their voice; only you shall solemnly warn them and show them the ways of the king who shall reign over them.” God uses sin so often in his sovereign plans. This chapter started out with Samuel’s sons being dishonest judges and the people wanted a king to rule over them like other nations. The people of God who had a unique relationship with God Almighty wanted to replace him with a human king!  God knows that this sin would cause them much harm and it was a great insult to the Lord Go...

Fear God and don’t sin

Read Psalm 91: 4-6 He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday  Fear is a huge motivation for good and for evil.  Scripture says many times the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and other positive characteristics. Our choice is to choose who or what we fear. If we fear anything other than God we will tend to sin because anything that is not by faith is sin. Trust in the Lord Jesus with all your heart and your inclination to fear other things and sin will become less. Help us Jesus to trust in you.  Amen

Ignorance is no excuse

1Samuel 6:8-9,19-20 “8And take the ark of the LORD and place it on the cart and put in a box at its side the figures of gold, which you are returning to him as a guilt offering. Then send it off and let it go its way 9and watch. If it goes up on the way to its own land, to Beth-shemesh, then it is he who has done us this great harm, but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that struck us; it happened to us by coincidence.” 19And he struck some of the men of Beth-shemesh, because they looked upon the ark of the LORD. He struck seventy men of them, and the people mourned because the LORD had struck the people with a great blow. 20Then the men of Beth-shemesh said, “Who is able to stand before the LORD, this holy God? And to whom shall he go up away from us? This chapter tells about interacting with the Lord God almighty in ignorance.  The Philistines took the ark and God caused great harm to the people and they wanted the troubles to stop.  So they sent it away and...

Connect to God’s glory

1 Samuel 7:3-4 “3And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, “If you are returning to the LORD with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your heart to the LORD and serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” 4So the people of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and they served the LORD only.” This is the pattern of Israel and all believers of the Lord God. They tend to wander from trusting Jesus.  Why do we act so poorly and put our hearts desire on other things for our satisfaction?  Oh how it grieves the Lord that we have so little faith in him. He knows that we are fragile and need help but wouldn’t be great if we would desire more of him every moment of every day!  We are made to find our joy and satisfaction in his glory and when we see him high and lifted up where he is seated in glory we will reflect his glory.  It is like we connect to the circuit of God’s lo...

God is a jealous God

1Samuel 5:1-5 “1When the Philistines captured the ark of God, they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon. 3And when the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and put him back in his place. 4But when they rose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD, and the head of Dagon and both his hands were lying cut off on the threshold. Only the trunk of Dagon was left to him. 5This is why the priests of Dagon and all who enter the house of Dagon do not tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.” God of the universe takes his glory very serious.  He is a jealous God and there is nothing that compares to him.  We must always realize that our Lord is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  He is not o...

Don’t trust in the power of God only

1 Samuel 4:5-9 “5As soon as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel gave a mighty shout, so that the earth resounded. 6And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shouting, they said, “What does this great shouting in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” And when they learned that the ark of the LORD had come to the camp, 7the Philistines were afraid, for they said, “A god has come into the camp.” And they said, “Woe to us! For nothing like this has happened before. 8Woe to us! Who can deliver us from the power of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with every sort of plague in the wilderness. 9Take courage, and be men, O Philistines, lest you become slaves to the Hebrews as they have been to you; be men and fight.” This portion of chapter 4 has judgement by God throughout it.  Knowing about God and expecting his help is very dangerous if your heart is not with him. Past knowledge of his protection and faithfulness is good i...

Purposeful life

Samuel 3: 10-14 “10And the LORD came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.” 11Then the LORD said to Samuel, “Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which the two ears of everyone who hears it will tingle. 12On that day I will fulfill against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end. 13And I declare to him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God,a and he did not restrain them. 14Therefore I swear to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.” The pre-incarnate Christ stood next to Samuel and called him by name!  What a powerful scene to start Samuel’s ministry.  We all have a beginning serving the Lord.  Jesus help us realize that what you have planned for our life is important and holy.  Samuel had encounters with you that...

God raises the poor sometimes

Samuel 2:6-9 “6The LORD kills and brings to life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up. 7The LORD makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and he exalts. 8He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and on them he has set the world. 9“He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness, for not by might shall a man prevail.” Hannah Samuel’s mother has brought her son to Eli the Priest.  She was so overjoyed she praises God with her prayer. She describes the Lord God as the King and determines the course of mankind.  He raises up rich and makes poor, he brings low and exalts.  He raises the poor from the dust and makes them princes.  He guards the path of the faithful but the wicked he cuts off.  Man will not prevail by their own strength!  Therefore what ever you have or don’t have ...

Desire what is good

Samuel 1: 12-18 “12As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli observed her mouth. 13Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman. 14And Eli said to her, “How long will you go on being drunk? Put your wine away from you.” 15But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the LORD. 16Do not regard your servant as a worthless woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation.” 17Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him.” 18And she said, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad. There are times when we feel worthless because we do not have what we want!  This is a common theme throughout scripture and life. Hanna in her desperation ...

Choose the Lord God

Isaiah 66:1-2, 22-24 “1Thus says the LORD: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? 2All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the LORD. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.  22“For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the LORD, so shall your offspring and your name remain. 23From new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before me, declares the LORD. 24“And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.” Reading through Isaiah these last 66 days have open my eyes over and over to who God is and what he desires from his people. This last chapter summar...

Choose God’s side

Isaiah 65:13-16 “13Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be put to shame; 14behold, my servants shall sing for gladness of heart, but you shall cry out for pain of heart and shall wail for breaking of spirit. 15You shall leave your name to my chosen for a curse, and the Lord GOD will put you to death, but his servants he will call by another name, 16so that he who blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of truth, and he who takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten and are hidden from my eyes. Choose whose side are you on? God’s or your side for there is no other choice.  All of our desires are universal and important to all mankind.  God has made us to need food, water, happiness, significance, and freedom from conflict.  God prom...

Trust and obey

Isaiah 64:5-8 “5You meet him who joyfully works righteousness, those who remember you in your ways. Behold, you were angry, and we sinned; in our sins we have been a long time, and shall we be saved? 6We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. 7There is no one who calls upon your name, who rouses himself to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have made us melt inc the hand of our iniquities. 8But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.“ Verse 5 says something very interesting “God was angry and we sinned”. God does get angry when we sin but this says God was angry and then we sinned.  This shows that God actions preceded our actions.  Then Isaiah describes all the people’s sins which mainly are ignoring God.  So if we sin or if we praise God ult...

Fear the Lord

Isaiah 63:1-6 “ 1Who is this who comes from Edom, in crimsoned garments from Bozrah, he who is splendid in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.” 2Why is your apparel red, and your garments like his who treads in the winepress? 3“I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with me; I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath; their lifeblood spattered on my garments, and stained all my apparel. 4For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and my year of redemption had come. 5I looked, but there was no one to help; I was appalled, but there was no one to uphold; so my own arm brought me salvation, and my wrath upheld me. 6I trampled down the peoples in my anger; I made them drunk in my wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.” The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  Do we fear the wrath of God?  If you say God is love, he is merciful, he has compassion y...

Married to Jesus

Isaiah 62:3-5 “ 3You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. 4You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. 5For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.“ This is thrilling news that the Lord God delights in his people. Our salvation does not come from God who must fulfill his contract to be good to his people but he delights, loves, rejoices over his beloved ones.  Like a husband whose excitement to be with his wife is overwhelming so is the Lord Jesus desires  over his bride the church. Jesus enjoys to do good for those who love and obey him. He disciplines the ones he loves for their good so they can receive more of his glory.  We are tru...

Lord is relational

Isaiah 61:8-9 “For I the LORD love justice; I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. 9Their offspring shall be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are an offspring the LORD has blessed.” This chapter was the verses that Jesus read to begin his ministry.  This is the year of the Lord’s favor.  In this chapter the Lord tells what he will do for his people and thereby glorify his name in and through them. In verse 8 the Lord said he loves justice and hates robbery and wrong.  And he will faithfully give recompense (reward) and make an everlasting covenant with them, his people.  Why did he say during this proclamation of doing good for his people that he hates robbery and wrong?  It seems not to fit. He is stating that he will bless them and be with them always. God is love, full of mercy and fo...

God’s beautiful in you

Isaiah 60:19-22 “The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. 20Your sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended. 21Your people shall all be righteous; they shall possess the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I might be glorified. 22The least one shall become a clan, and the smallest one a mighty nation; I am the LORD; in its time I will hasten it.” What makes you happy?  A beautiful sunset, a wonderful meal, your children giving you a big smile, a love one sharing their heart with you.  Well, that and much, much more is what God has planned for his people when Jesus returns. This hope is something we can’t yet see but is guaranteed because God’s word is true. Have you ever experienced something so good that you didn’t w...

The gospel of God

Our goal is to be with God and his favor forever for this is the fountain of life.  The way to receive his favor is to obey him perfectly, for not to obey is sin.  Sin causes an immediate separation from God’s favor for God cannot accept sin but has to judge and condemn it.  We as sinners have no hope in living a sinless life!  Jesus came and lived a perfect life and when we by faith trust him and all he said about himself then we are saved from God’s wrath. Jesus was our substitute when he died on the cross. Therefore like Abraham of old he trusted God to save him and his faith was counted as righteousness.  We by trusting in Jesus to save us by our faith, are counted as righteous.  God’s plans for our life are always amazing.  Lord help us trust you today!  Thank you Jesus. Amen

Save me Jesus

Isaiah 58:13-14 “If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasurec on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure,d or talking idly; 14then you shall take delight in the LORD, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” God desires us to put our trust in him not ourselves or anyone or anything else.  All his commandments can be summed up in ‘put your trust in me’. The Sabbath and fasting both teach us to look to God for pleasure, peace and  paradise. The idea is so simple but impossible to preform without a new heart, renewed heart, humble heart. If you see yourself going the wrong direction through the wide path that leads away from Jesus, stop and cry out for help!  Lord Jesus save me from myself.  He loves that prayer because it sa...

Turn and run to Jesus

Isaiah 57:24-16 “And it shall be said, “Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstruction from my people’s way.” 15For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” Isaiah at the beginning of the chapter described  Israel wayward ways of seeking other idols and the confusion and hopelessness it brings. Then he tells them that God is high and lifted up and prepares a way for his people to come to him. He says it takes a contrite and lowly spirit. When we understand that we are going the wrong way that we need to confess our sins and ask for mercy from God we should not hesitate! He never turns away a person who is truly remorseful. The joy of living in Jesus is that he is holding and carrying you through your live, the good times and the struggles. For our part ...
