Obedience more than wisdom
1 Samuel 15:22-24 “And Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
and to listen than the fat of rams. 23For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.” 24Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.”
Saul used his wisdom to obey people instead of trusting the Lord and obeying him. Have you ever said in your heart that if I do this little sin I can serve Jesus better because.....? Truly you are pleasing your own sinful desires or other people’s wants by only sinning a little and think God wouldn’t mind! Saul played that game and the Lord hated his disobedience. The only way to please the Lord is by trusting him and obeying his word. If you know his word says do this or don’t do that then don’t try to rationalize disobedience. God doesn’t need anything from you. When you obey him it glorifies him because your actions tell the world he is worthy of trust that produces obedience. Pleasing God is knowing him, loving him, trusting him and obeying him so his glory will shine through our good works that can only occur when we say your will not mine be done. Help us Lord Jesus today. Amen
