Lord is relational
Isaiah 61:8-9 “For I the LORD love justice;
I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. 9Their offspring shall be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are an offspring the LORD has blessed.”
This chapter was the verses that Jesus read to begin his ministry. This is the year of the Lord’s favor. In this chapter the Lord tells what he will do for his people and thereby glorify his name in and through them. In verse 8 the Lord said he loves justice and hates robbery and wrong. And he will faithfully give recompense (reward) and make an everlasting covenant with them, his people. Why did he say during this proclamation of doing good for his people that he hates robbery and wrong? It seems not to fit. He is stating that he will bless them and be with them always. God is love, full of mercy and forgiveness. But he also loves justice and he hates lawlessness. God is personal and reacts to disobedience in a very real way. If we think we have the recipe to get out of his punishment by claiming Jesus blood we are diminishing the Lord to a object and not a person who cares very much about his relationship with us. Isaiah describes the Lord in many ways that testify to his personhood and how he responds to his people’s actions. We must have confidence in our relationship with God through our faith in Jesus Christ. But don’t treat him as an object to handle, but who he really is the Lord God of the universe who loves and hates. Lord Jesus help us to love you and fear you today. For your glory Jesus. Amen
