God restrains his people
1Samuel 9:15-17 “15Now the day before Saul came, the LORD had revealed to Samuel: 16“Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be princec over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seend my people, because their cry has come to me.” 17When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD told him, “Here is the man of whom I spoke to you! He it is who shall restrain my people.”
Saul will restrain God’s people. God hears his people’s cry to him. They wanted a human king instead of the Lord as their king. God who deserves our praise and worship and honor was not enough for his people. They want someone they can see, hear and smell. Our hearts are sinful and desire sinful things. God in his love for his people gives them a physically beautiful king. It would be troublesome for them for it would restrain them from trusting the Lord. But God’s sovereign plan will ultimately show his glory through the sinfulness of his people’s hearts. We must pray that God daily keeps our hearts on desiring him and not fall into the desires of sin. Please stay close to us today Jesus. For your glory and our joy. Amen
