Restful Sleep

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭127‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭ESV‬‬


We are to work hard to produce what we need to live and prosper but without knowledge and thanksgiving to the Lord we labor in vain.  This happens because  without trusting the Lord for our future we worry that we won't have enough or we may lose what we have obtained. Here the Lord says he gives to his beloved sleep apart from worry.  Lord help us to know you love us and will protect us from all danger for you are always with us.  Praise you Jesus.  Amen

A chosen privilege

 “And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭13‬:‭27‬ ‭ESV‬‬ We have not chosen God's love first, it is God who has chosen us.  What a glorious and tremendous responsibility.  The God of the universe has chosen us to represent him in his world.  With this truth placed deep in our heart we must love Jesus and others more than ourselves because that is the character of God.  Our privilege and responsibility is huge.  We must submit to the Holy Spirit to live righteously for we are witnesses to king Jesus.  Amen

Be sober for the day

 “But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.” ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Jesus is called the morning star, bringing light into this evil dark world.  When we taste and see that the Lord is good we live in his light which is called day.  Paul encouraged us to be sober in preparing for Jesus' return.  He means to mentally and spiritually be clear in our thinking about our faith. To be self disciplined, and vigilant concerning our hope and belief in Jesus' love and presence.  When doubt and danger tempt us we need to stay sober and put on the armor of God and trust in the Lord.   Lord help us to be ready to serve you by loving you and others until you come.  Come soon Lord Jesus come soon.  Amen
