Why the Law?

“For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭13‬ ‭ESV‬‬


Why did God give us his laws?  So we would know what he thinks are important and must be followed to please him.  Jesus summarized the law by saying love God fully and love your neighbor as yourself.  God's law is impossible to fulfill and yet we must for that is what we are made to do.  So we try to change the law so we can reach the requirements.  It never works because there is emptiness in our heart without pleasing God.  Jesus came to help us fulfill the law by loving God and his neighbor perfectly. Faith in him along, his life, death and resurrection fulfills the law for us.  Then we live by God's grace to us through the Holy Spirit and begin the process of becoming holy.  It looks like loving God more each day and loving others as we love ourselves because we realize that God loved us so much that he died for us, undeserving sinners. Therefore the law is fulfilled in us when the Holy Spirit gives us the knowledge and power to live loving God and others.  Praise you Lord Jesus.  Amen

A chosen privilege

 “And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭13‬:‭27‬ ‭ESV‬‬ We have not chosen God's love first, it is God who has chosen us.  What a glorious and tremendous responsibility.  The God of the universe has chosen us to represent him in his world.  With this truth placed deep in our heart we must love Jesus and others more than ourselves because that is the character of God.  Our privilege and responsibility is huge.  We must submit to the Holy Spirit to live righteously for we are witnesses to king Jesus.  Amen

Be sober for the day

 “But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.” ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Jesus is called the morning star, bringing light into this evil dark world.  When we taste and see that the Lord is good we live in his light which is called day.  Paul encouraged us to be sober in preparing for Jesus' return.  He means to mentally and spiritually be clear in our thinking about our faith. To be self disciplined, and vigilant concerning our hope and belief in Jesus' love and presence.  When doubt and danger tempt us we need to stay sober and put on the armor of God and trust in the Lord.   Lord help us to be ready to serve you by loving you and others until you come.  Come soon Lord Jesus come soon.  Amen
