Selfish eternity

”Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.“

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬ ‭ESV‬‬


What is wrong with selfish ambition?  Isn't how we become successful in our society.  We are told to take care of yourself first and then take care of others.  Like in an airplane emergency and they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first then help others. Then problem with this approach to life is that in the process of helping yourself there are people who are helpless getting over looked!  So how can we listen to Paul and count others more than ourselves?  Do we have to give up our reasoning and live reckless lives not caring for tomorrow?  Don't we have to take care of our basic needs first?  Jesus was wise but died for others, and yet saw joy as the result of his action.  Selfishness is to narrow thinking for it doesn't see the lasting picture of life after death.  If you want to be truly selfish then think of others first here and then we will receive unlimited joy in heaven.  Let us remember that to being selfish here is not caring about ourselves for eternity.  Amen

A chosen privilege

 “And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭13‬:‭27‬ ‭ESV‬‬ We have not chosen God's love first, it is God who has chosen us.  What a glorious and tremendous responsibility.  The God of the universe has chosen us to represent him in his world.  With this truth placed deep in our heart we must love Jesus and others more than ourselves because that is the character of God.  Our privilege and responsibility is huge.  We must submit to the Holy Spirit to live righteously for we are witnesses to king Jesus.  Amen

Be sober for the day

 “But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.” ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Jesus is called the morning star, bringing light into this evil dark world.  When we taste and see that the Lord is good we live in his light which is called day.  Paul encouraged us to be sober in preparing for Jesus' return.  He means to mentally and spiritually be clear in our thinking about our faith. To be self disciplined, and vigilant concerning our hope and belief in Jesus' love and presence.  When doubt and danger tempt us we need to stay sober and put on the armor of God and trust in the Lord.   Lord help us to be ready to serve you by loving you and others until you come.  Come soon Lord Jesus come soon.  Amen
