Eternal Life


“to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭2:7-8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

So after reading these verses many times I believe Paul is making a case that no one enters eternal life on their own ability.  God’s requirements are so great that if we mess up once we are lost forever.  God is totally righteous and we have some righteousness in us but no where close to the perfection God requires.   That is why Jesus said to be perfect like your Heavenly Father is perfect!  All of scripture points to Jesus perfect life, death and resurrection.  We may at times believe we are doing what it takes to receive salvation and eternal life on our own.  But what is required is learning and trusting that we can do nothing apart from Jesus and his love for us. Nothing!!

These verses at first seem difficult but turn out to be jewels because they point us to Jesus.  There is no greater gift.  Thank you Holy Spirit  for opening our eyes and heart to the truth.  Amen

A chosen privilege

 “And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭13‬:‭27‬ ‭ESV‬‬ We have not chosen God's love first, it is God who has chosen us.  What a glorious and tremendous responsibility.  The God of the universe has chosen us to represent him in his world.  With this truth placed deep in our heart we must love Jesus and others more than ourselves because that is the character of God.  Our privilege and responsibility is huge.  We must submit to the Holy Spirit to live righteously for we are witnesses to king Jesus.  Amen

Be sober for the day

 “But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.” ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Jesus is called the morning star, bringing light into this evil dark world.  When we taste and see that the Lord is good we live in his light which is called day.  Paul encouraged us to be sober in preparing for Jesus' return.  He means to mentally and spiritually be clear in our thinking about our faith. To be self disciplined, and vigilant concerning our hope and belief in Jesus' love and presence.  When doubt and danger tempt us we need to stay sober and put on the armor of God and trust in the Lord.   Lord help us to be ready to serve you by loving you and others until you come.  Come soon Lord Jesus come soon.  Amen
